Logistics of PPE

The client had a fast growing business line in providing personal protection equipment to production facilities. The orders varied of some pieces to complete pallets. The warehousing and logistics were a unreliable link in the global chain. The client had a lot of incidents: uncompleted deliveries, too late, wrong addresses, blocked deliveries at customs due to bad administration, and so on.

Blue Chain assessed the problems and mirrored the logistic organization with the customer flow. The accountability of the warehouse agents was now fixed and communication improved. The inbound warehouse traffic was also re-organized. Different flows were now grouped in specialties and cross-docking was implemented. This increased the speed of flow. The suppliers were also followed up with a reminder system.

To improve the grouping of equipment for a customer order (consolidation), the packaging instructions for the suppliers were changed. The flows were more back-to-back organized. The outbound traffic was programmed in a fixed rhythm so that the customers knew that they could expect deliveries on a pre-set date.
